Doug Ford is trying to protect himself, not Ontario, with an early election call

Canada’s anger over threats from south of the border is a powerful force. However, using that force for political gain when we need focused leadership is self-centred and unnecessary.

Martin Regg Cohn highlights why an election now is wrong:

  • Ford governs with a massive majority that runs to June 2026.
  • He doesn’t need ‘a new mandate to spend billions.’ He didn’t for Covid.
  • With a power vacuum in Ottawa, we can’t afford the same at Queen’s Park.
  • We need unity, not leaders taking potshots at each other in a campaign.
  • We have unity–opposition parties have pledged cooperation in dealing with Trump.
  • Ford is receiving praise for his strong stand on Trump, Now he needs to see it through!

MediaAMP is non-partisan. We promote good governance, whoever is in power. If you agree with Regg Cohn that “We need the Ontario government on the job, fighting to protect the 500,000 jobs…” and we don’t need “a premier campaigning for his own job,” let Mr. Ford know.
